Low Libido Treatment for Men

It happens to a lot of men, but few want to talk about it. Virility plays a big role in how we see manhood, and there's an idea you're supposed to live up to: "real men are always in the mood." That's not true. Lots of men have a low sex drive, for many reasons – and there are many ways to treat it.

What is low libido?

Low libido is a noticeable, ongoing drop in sexual desire. It is different from erectile dysfunction – you can have a healthy erection and still have little interest in sex – although the two often occur together.

We are based in Sandton and consult with men across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Gauteng and the rest of South Africa by phone and WhatsApp.

What causes low libido?

Any number of things, some physical and some psychological – and sometimes both:

  • Low testosterone
  • Prescription medicines, including some antidepressants
  • Too little – or too much – exercise
  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Depression and chronic stress
  • Poor sleep and obesity
  • Chronic illness
  • Problems in your relationship

Treatment

How is low libido treated?

No one thing causes low libido, so treatment depends on the cause. Erection medicines such as Viagra or Cialis don't boost libido – they help you get and keep an erection – which is why we look at the whole picture.

At Men's Clinic South Africa we use natural, organic products. Please discuss any medication or condition with us first. Every treatment plan starts with a confidential consultation. You can speak to us by phone or WhatsApp from anywhere in South Africa, or visit our Sandton clinic.

FAQ

Low Libido questions

Straight answers to the questions men ask us most.

Is low libido the same as erectile dysfunction?

No. Low libido is a lack of sexual desire; erectile dysfunction is difficulty getting or keeping an erection. They often occur together and can be treated together.

Can low testosterone cause low libido?

Yes. About 4 in 10 men over 45 have low testosterone, and it is one of the most common physical causes of a reduced sex drive.

Will Viagra or Cialis increase my sex drive?

No. These medicines help with erections but do not increase desire. Treating low libido means addressing its cause – hormonal, physical or psychological.

How quickly will I see results?

Most men notice an improvement within the first weeks of treatment, especially when lifestyle factors are addressed at the same time. We follow up with you to track progress.

Results vary from person to person. This information is not a substitute for medical advice.
